The Heart and Vascular Institute is able to give complete and comprehensive care to its patients; one service that benefits the total health care needs is provided by a Registered Dietitian (RD) who is a member of the staff. Our dietitian is also a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE); she helps clients understand the relationship between diabetes and heart disease provides appropriate meal plans that are consistent with the persons lifestyle and capabilities and educates patients on appropriate treatment of hypo and hyperglycemia.
The importance of nutrition in the prevention of primary heart disease as well as secondary heart disease events is firmly documented. The dietitian assists our patients in understanding basic nutrition needs as well as individualizing nutrition therapy according to the patients needs (cholesterol, triglyceride, weight management, diabetes, and other nutrition issues) Ask one of our physicians how to make an appointment for Medical Nutrition Therapy.
