/_uploaded_files/heart_in_body.jpgWhat is a Transesophageal Echocardiogram?

A Transesophageal Echocardiogram is a type of echocardiogram test that allows a physician to record images of the heart from the inside of the patient's esophagus by using an ultrasound transducer, positioned on an endoscope.

What is an endoscope?

The endoscope is a long, thin, flexible instrument that is guided down the patient's throat into the esophagus to provide close-up images of the heart's valves and chambers without interference from the ribs or lungs.
